I am looking at renting an apartment in DC while I do an internship this fall. My top choice at the moment is a basement apartment in SE (the Capitol side). I don't have an exact street address, but it is 4 blocks in between Lincoln Park and RFK Stadium.

So, would this area be considered relatively safe and a decent area to live? The quick search I did on crime data seemed ok for the last month. Some break ins, but no violent assaults.

The last time I was in DC I stayed in the Eastern Market area, which isn't too far, but I know the quality of a place can change drastically in the matter of a few blocks.

Also, the place is going for $950 (utilities included) per month. Good deal?

Any insight is much appreciated.

You'll be fine. It's of those areas where if you mind your business your you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I'm sure it's fine like you say, I'm just a little anxious since I come from a very small town.

Great deal for a place within the city. By the time you reach Lincoln Park, the neighborhood is perfectly fine. If you travel on foot from the park to the stadium, you'll see it shift a little. That said, a lot of folks have been moving to that area in recent years for the value.
