I need a little insider help, my girlfriend and I are looking to move to the DC area(Alexandria, Arlington, Annandale). We both are college students, thats the reason why we are moving up there(plus a new secnery from florida) I have a few questions that I haven't been able to get answered. One being the pay rate up in that area. I was told by one person that it was 40% increase from florida, and another tell me it is the same as here. I work at Sears doing warehouse work(MPU) making minimum wage(7.25), I have noticed that the cost of living up there in VA is crazy different from here. We live in a 950sqft condo paying $550 a month in Altamonte Springs(pretty good area). So now my questions... by transferring or getting a new job will my pay go up? Also are there any cheaper places to live in a decent area without paying $950 for a studio(400sqft)? Thanks for all the help. SN: if i did this wrong I'm sorry, new to this forum thing.

-Pay may go up a little but not alot....check with your employer to see what the pay schedule is for your company in DC

-You will probably have to change your skillset to get more money if you don't have a college degree...

-get a security clearance-pay and job opportunities explode in dc...
-get into technology-tons of opportunities in DC region

You guys may have to move into a group house or get other roomates to make ends meet...thats what alot of people do especially the 20 somethings...

An AA is not going to do anything in DC. DC is the most educated town in the US. If you dont have a four year degree dont expect to get a good paying job. My suggestion is stay in Florida until you can secure a job and try to find an area that you can afford with that job. The DC area is going to be much more expensive then the Orlando area.

Are you going up there to go to school and get a four year degree? Or you just want to get out of Florida?
