This is true. New York City's mass transit is far more extensive than DC's and Chicago's is somewhat more, especially the train system. Then again, those cities and their metro areas are quite a bit larger and more populated than DC's. Other than those two cities, DC's mass transit ranks favorably compared to most other U.S. cities. So that's still among the elite compared to the rest of the country.

I rode on the Chicago subway or whatever they call it once and it seemed pretty rickety and old to me.

The MARTA in Atlanta has somewhat nice cars I must say but it's slow as hell. It does go to Hartsfield-Jackson though, which is more than can (currently) be said for DC :P
