Hoping to overshadow last month’s large rally led by Glenn Beck that drew many Tea Party advocates and other conservatives, a coalition of liberal groups plan to descend on Washington on Saturday to make the case that they, and not the ascendant right, speak for America’s embattled middle class.

Predicting a crowd of more than 100,000, some 300 liberal groups — including the N.A.A.C.P., the A.F.L.-C.I.O., the National Council of La Raza and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force — are sponsoring a march on Saturday in the hope of transforming the national conversation so it focuses less on the Tea Party. The groups sponsoring the rally, which is called “One Nation Working Together,” say they hope to supplant what they say is the Tea Party’s divisiveness with a message of unity to promote jobs, justice and education.

Personally I wish there was a true Middle-Class Party. We sorely need one right now. Messed up that the Right is claiming it with the weirdness coming out of there. Middle-class with any sense has to reject it.

Unfortunately though, the left is offering nothing.

Tiger,

Well, I can say that the middle-class political parties in Japan (Liberal-Democrats and the Japanese Democratic Party) are failing the Japanese people as the country enters its second straight decade of economic malaise. It's no wonder you have more Japanese citizens finding membership in the Communist Party and far-right political parties.

It's the same situation here in America with the Republicans and Democrats.

Then again, the Middle-Class is failing this country:

They want tax cuts but they want more government services.

They want better public schools but they vote against school bond initiatives on election day.

They want to drive their fat-*ss SUVs around suburbia yet they complain about gas prices and worry about global warming.

They would rather have states subsidize their professional sports teams then provide more monies for community health services and education.

They get angry at illegal immigrants for taking jobs yet I haven't seen one undocumented worker steal an office job from a college-educated professional.

Middle-class America is stupid, man. They don't need a political party; they need liberation from capitalism and the imperial-war state called the United States of America.

I'll go...I live in Dupont. The demographics will be more representative of today's USA than the tea potty rallies and the people attending will be much more pleasant on the eyes.

Attended the rally today. Perfect weather---nice vibe. Being a veteran of these things since the 80's (mostly at gay rights rallies and a number of 4th of July celebrations on the Mall), I'd venture to guess that there were about 100,000 people at any given time, and probably twice as many throughout the day---it was a very fluid group, with many people coming and going throughout the day. It was the most diverse rally I've yet seen, a real slice of America. I'm glad I was able to attend, since I probably will have to work on Oct. 30 (Colbert/Stewart rally).

Good points. The middle class in the U.S. wants "change".. but doesn't want to change anything about themselves. They basically want a great meal, but they don't want to pay for it.
