It'll go up this year or be the same as last year if we don't have any blizzards......

Most crime happens in the summer. I don't know why it would necessarily go up. The economy's rebounding; a lot of stalled development will start pushing through again.

Most murders happened in the non summer months this years, but we'll see. D.C. ain't safe as people try to make it seem.

we came in at 131 last year vs. 143 in '09, but the pace picked up after June, and didn't slow down in the fall

things also seem to be getting a little worse in Philly, Balt, Richmond, Boston, NY

People born and raised here alway say that for some reason. Perhaps it's just a mythos held over from the 80s and 90s, perhaps there's some validity to it. Even though murders have happened within a block of me on a couple occasions, I'm unexpectedly tapped into some of the nastiest underbelly of DC, and I've been shot at, DC's still pretty darn safe these days. A vast majority of murders are targeted to people mixed up in bad stuff. (Knock on wood) It's pretty rare that random people are gunned down any more. We're definitely no longer in the Baltimore / Detroit / Oakland / New Orleans level of crime, though of course bad stuff happens.

Yes but we're still not in the NYC, LA, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Phily range either. We're stuck in the middle and will probably remain there for awhile. Plus PG county is getting worse so far, the streets are getting tense there and more beefs are arising.

That's true for sure - though Chicago, Philly, and LA all have areas that are worse than anything the DC area has (by sheer size their per capita rates are lower). It will be interesting to see if we ever get over that hump.

Stars - I'll assume you were referring to ffknight on that last post since I didn't address you at all. Hope you're having a wonderful new year, my little miracle from Orlando.
