It isn't so much about trying as paying for it. Metro as it is doesn't have two spare nickels to rub together. The city doesn't see Metro as eligible for plain old tax dollars, given the regular funding they already provide. Premium late night fares would cut mid-week late-night ridership significantly, given that many would be low-income service workers. The only real answer is to give Metro the funding it needs to run a proper transit system. Area jurisdictions cannot be counted on to do their part. We basically need a dedicated regional tax that Metro could bank and plan on going forward.
