I've been here for over a year (DC, NV AREA) and I've never experienced such a soulless, boring, unfriendly place on the planet. I'm checking out Baltimore this weekend.
this is good it means you are very sane.
best to you in your search.

Full of soulless yuppy trash that are nothing but parasites on the human spirit.
There is only one good reason to be here and everyone knows it, money.
We're all suckling at the federal teat as the government funnels money from the useful and productive areas of the country into this soulless void of sham contractors and corrupt politicians.
Im a WAshingtonian, and In my experience DC is the most nastiest, mean hearted, unfriendliest city in the country.(and I have lived in other cities) People drive crazy and in a hurry even on Sunday. People are stand-offish. Cost of living is through the roof. The vibe of the city is that of anger and a hidden frustration at the world. Sometimes I just want to scream out "HELLO! HOW ARE YOU! I'M HERE!!I'M ALIVE! ARE YOU ALIVE!!" People try hard not to make eye contact here. The only good things are easy access, landscape and architecture and there are things to do...however that all counts for NOT if your doing things with people who are just out right mean and uncaring. The only friends I have in DC are people from other places. I can tell by how warm and engaging they are. Hey the rock group "THE POLICE" did not even include DC on their U.S tour for cryin' out loud, and they toures the entire country and world this summer. that says it all!! I'm upset but I understand.
A very accurate description. The free floating hostility stems from all the type-A sociopaths running through life as what they genuinely view as a life and death zero sum game. The lack of eye contact comes from the fact that people are paranoid and cynical. They think (probably correctly) that anyone could snap and hurt them at any time. Mean and uncaring? Oh yes. Nobody around here is your friend. You might live right next door to someone but they wouldn't waste 1 minute of their day to save your life if such a situation arose.
I've lived around the country and around the world and believe me when I tell you the ONLY reason to live anywhere near D.C. is the jobs and money. That's all.
Yes leave! Please! Get out of here. Then you can go to the next city's folder and complain about the mean people, costs, traffic, etc. As if DC is the only place that has these things. Sheesh!
Calm down and at least try to be objective. Parasites on human spirit ? sociopaths ? Do you really think anyone will treat your post serious after statements like these ?
Yac.

I'm no fan of DC but that's not fair at all. I pretty much agree with everything else although there are some nice folks on Cap Hill where I live that make eye contact and offer a "good morning" so all is not lost.
There are nice people here too, but they aren't the boring suburban government drones who metro in from Vienna, nor are they the self important newbie lawyers from Kansas that think they are top dawg because they're in the "big city" now.
I can't believe I'm saying this and I really don't like it here but objectivity can do wonders for one's attitude.

That is the extent of my objectivity regarding D.C. and the surrounding suburbs.

Are you kidding me? You want souless, boring, and unfriendly then come to Charlotte. Honestly, I don't know how anyone can say that DC is boring...
Being a culture freak and needing an art fix frequently, DC was heaven on earth for almost 12 years; I only left to change professions. I would go to Baltimore when depressed, especially in rotten weather, and after a day there and Fells Point, I always felt right grounded. Baltimore has some kind of spirit DC could never have - it's a different function. Also, DC has a master-slave mentality - it's all mind games. Well over half of the "master" players are losers that couldn't function in any other setting. The real class is a riot and actually makes up a pretty small circle of people - same parties, same galas, same restaurants - The nicest people I found in the District were the Afro-Ams that lived in DC for generations - some of the classiest people around. If you move to Baltimore, you do so for Baltimore - a daily commute would be hell...Try Annapolis, that place always seemed real livable.

Sums it up for me, pretty much, too.
