Not everybody in DC is on Facebook.

Well that's just what some people do. When I went to Atlantic City last weekend the girl at the casino asked for my id and got excited because I was from Springfield. I could tell by her accent that she was a DC native. She was so sweet. It was nice.

Fewer white people ride the bus particularly around Capitol Hill (last neighborhood I rode the bus).

Yeah agreed. Well most people in America are on Facebook.

When I meet people from Georgia I get excited because I used to really enjoy watching the NWA/WCW and the Atlanta Hawks on TBS back in the day.

Anyone trying to pretend DC is not a sterile depressing type-A place is in serious denial. They mention the great punk and gogo that came out of the city 30 YEARS AGO as signs of culture and life. DC is becoming a rich yuppie playground and it's ramping up and going faster. I remember when the area had normal people. They've all left or plan to leave like me. People who want to enjoy life instead of be all about money.

Anyone notice no artists or musicians ever move to DC? The ones we have are either trust fund baby types or people who are stuck here and work another job. Every girl here is like a clone, a yuppie who lives for Georgetown Cupcakes, 10K runs, srichaca sauce and raw foods It's an economic powerhouse but it's a pathetic city losing its soul quickly and unlike NY you aren't going to have a bunch of hipsters move here 8 to an apartment to experience a rewarding life.

This is beautiful.

So because I live in DC and am not depressed, I am in denial? Listen to what you are saying. People are allowed to have different opinions. How do you presume to know what other people's tastes are?
You're free to disagree with others people's opinions, but don't say we are in denial about what our opinions are.
By the way, I agree that DC is Type A, and while I don't consider myself Type A, I don't find it depressing that there are lots of Type A people here. So I am in denial that I'm not depressed?

This feels like that South Park episode where the Scientologists try to tell Stan that he is miserable and has tons of psychological problems, but doesn't know it.

Also, here's some music coming out of DC from THIS YEAR, not 30 years ago.

Oddisee | Music | Playlisted | The A.V. Club

Where did I presume other people's tastes? I mentioned type-A yuppies love it here. I grew up here and the massive flight of pretty much every person involved in creative fields from my HS speaks for itself. DC attracts politicos and yuppies. To everyone else, it is a hellhole. I have a normal white collar career but I'm also an artist and musician. I don't intend to make careers out of those but I just meet starched clones. You may have been lucky and found your niche here but that is untrue for half the people in the area, look at all the posters who have echoed my sentiments.

DC is going to be a cupcakeland for rich yuppies by 2020 not unlike Manhattan. You either like a fake plastic place or don't. Creative types pretty much think of the area as the Sahara Desert but the money will still roll in so yuppies have no reason to be resentful.

Well when you say "you are in denial if you don't think this town is depressing" that would seem to presume taste. By definition nobody likes something that is depressing, including Type A people.

Yes I did find my niche here which is journalism. This is a great town for jobs in journalism and I consider that a creative pursuit. Maybe you don't, but that's fine.
I know many other journalists and to me they are not bland, cookiecutter people at all. They are talented writers with points of view and something to say. Of course, many are political social climbers as well.

What kind of music do you play? Have you played live around the area?
