LoL I've met a lot of people who are fans of Atlanta sports teams thanks to growing up watching TBS. Ironically enough we didn't get cable until I was in high school not because we were poor but because my religous mother didn't want it in the house. So I didn't really grow up watching TBS and I'm not a big basketball fan. I hate that I missed the Braves v Nats game last weekend. A guy I was hanging out with has season tickets but I'm not taking advantage of someone just because they have baseball tickets. Now a beach house in Delaware? That's a different story.

a lot of people don't like dc, and a lot of people do.
it depends on your living conditions and your
interactions with the people living there how you
will cope or not with the place i guess.

There are only a few, very vocal and prolific posters, who echo your sentiments. There is some truth in the points you make, but you make those points in extremes and absolutes that misrepresent reality.

Sigh. I like DC. I'm having the time of my life and by no means am I a type A person. If anything there's too much temptation DC can be sin city if you know where to look. I don't think I'm in denial. I just know how to ignore the annoying prissy type A folks.

You're free to disagree with others people's opinions, but don't say we are in denial about what our opinions are.
By the way, I agree that DC is Type A, and while I don't consider myself Type A, I don't find it depressing that there are lots of Type A people here. So I am in denial that I'm not depressed?

This feels like that South Park episode where the Scientologists try to tell Stan that he is miserable and has tons of psychological problems, but doesn't know it.
Agreed. So on point.

I grew up here and the massive flight of pretty much every person involved in creative fields from my HS speaks for itself. DC attracts politicos and yuppies. To everyone else, it is a hellhole. I have a normal white collar career but I'm also an artist and musician. I don't intend to make careers out of those but I just meet starched clones. You may have been lucky and found your niche here but that is untrue for half the people in the area, look at all the posters who have echoed my sentiments.

DC is going to be a cupcakeland for rich yuppies by 2020 not unlike Manhattan. You either like a fake plastic place or don't. Creative types pretty much think of the area as the Sahara Desert but the money will still roll in so yuppies have no reason to be resentful.
You know my experience with natives has been totally different. Most of the folks I know who grew up in Northern Virginia seem fairly happy with their lives. The natives complain the least about living here in my experience.

Yes I did find my niche here which is journalism. This is a great town for jobs in journalism and I consider that a creative pursuit. Maybe you don't, but that's fine.
I know many other journalists and to me they are not bland, cookiecutter people at all. They are talented writers with points of view and something to say. Of course, many are political social climbers as well.

What kind of music do you play? Have you played live around the area?
I guess I'm a creative type I'm a writer but haven't written anything creative in ages. I've grown really attached to having a regular paycheck its kinda neat when money magically appears in my account.

To me DC is the city where you can be anything you want. There's so much opportunity here.

As a person who loves doing fun things and meeting new people I love DC. It's definitely a city that is transient which makes acquiring and maintaining long-term friendships hard but it's a place where you can have a ton of acquaintances and have something fun to do every single day. I will say that most people are flaky though. I truly love DC and all it has to offer. I haven't met any elitists. Some people are just full of themselves and I say let them be. They don't bother me. I like to associate with fun people and I have met plenty in this city. I also haven't encountered any thugs so I can't comment on this.

fake thugs get on my nerves, because they
spend too much time trying to be hard, but
they're soft and made of skin like everyone else.
