I'm looking to sublet a place in DC for a few months. The person I'm subletting from saying I'll need a parking permit to park on the street (I need a car for my job). However, my car is registered in NY, with NY plates. Can I get a DC street parking permit without having DC plates and the car registered in DC?

Nope. There are some exceptions for students, but if you are employed you have to register your car here. If you try to cheat, they will find you. DC parking is relentless.

The above poster is incorrect. You can get a six-month non-renewable temporary visitor pass.

Here's what you need to bring into the DMV:

Yeah you can get a frequent visitor permit too but yeah trust me they will get on you if they notice your car parked overnight too often. Just get whichever permit is most appropriate. The District loves to give out tickets or as I call them little pink love notes (we love your money haha).
