I dont think DC has any shortage of attractive women, be it of any race/ethnicity or national origin. Personalities can tend to vary, sure, but I see good looking women at almost all places in the city and its immediate burbs
Why did so many guys start moving here after the financial crisis?
Military and government contracts
Word of mouth
A rise in IT, Software and Engineering Jobs.

Well, let me chime in and give my 2cents. I am fresh out of Miami having moved here 2 weeks ago and working in DC. A little background, Im prior military, law enforcement, and highly active in the music/nightlife industry and have a personal training/sports nutrition business on the side.
See, in society, you have those that either look inside or outside the box and some that just look at things from different angles based on their social/career experiences, cultural exposures, as well as the way their minds naturally process and analyze things. Others just simply observe negatives and carry its weight without looking at the positives. An example would be an architect walking into a building and immediately noticing discrepancies while others are oblivious.
Living in 7 different countries and experiencing various professions while dealing directly with people on both social and personal levels, i can tell you that DC is in a world of its own. There is no absolute way to pin-point anything. Im a gov worker during the day and a music/talent booker at night for various venues in Miami but will be doing it here in DC. Recently i have been visiting friends at various events and venues around town. As a sports nutrition business owner, I have both trained and sponsored competition athletes taking notice to overall aesthetic symmetry. Here is my break down having lived in Russia, East Asia, Australia, and coming from Miami surrounding by South Americans, Europeans, and all others:
DC and everything associated with it attracts a certain group that have a certain mentality- those wanting to be in government agencies, college trade associations, contracting congress, lobbyists, etc. You also have your average janes/johns born to the above group over generations. With that being said, they may naturally be a bit more reserved and not so concerned with aesthetics but more concerned with overall health and well-being as so can see many people exercising and running throughout the city. In cities like Miami aesthetics and beauty comes before health as you have to compete with natural Latin/European generation/genetic based aesthetics coming from overseas. Florida has the second highest Latino population in the East coast outside of NYC. Latinos are known for beauty and flash. There is a high concentration of various European/south American cultures in other regions that the DMV doesn’t have. That plays a major factor. Also, one small observation, American women in general do not like to wear pantyhose. It can be 35 degrees and you see those wearing high heels with no nylon. It’s totally unappealing. Many European/Asian men have nylon/tan legged fetishes. Why? Because they saw it at early ages growing up. It’s very appealing. But many women in DC I find will wear dark black stockings- that may not be limited to DC. Please do not try to argue this point. If you do not have such a fetish, it is merely impossible for you to have a say in this matter.
With that said, those that live and have grown up in the surrounding DMV area have chalked it up systematically as generation thing. There has never been a need for flash, tans, fast cars, and boobs. We are not near the beach. Many become aesthetically complacent and there is no really need to keep up aesthetically. It’s a totally different mindset here and we are given subtle signs on a daily basis that which molds our ways of thinking and interactions.
Ex- I left Miami because I was in search of intellectual stimulation. I have always wondered what affects certain ads on the radio have on a community. There are ads in Miami during the day on major radio stations such as- "breast augmentation with incision below the arm as low as $200" (in English). People in Miami don't think anything about it but to me it’s crazy and it makes me wonder- what does it say about women? The doctors make money but how do those ads indirectly affect others and our young teens that will soon turn into adults? But today, this morning as a matter of fact, I was on a DC metro bus and saw an ad on the back of a bus for a traffic radio station that read- "because you can’t keep your client waiting”. To those living in DC its nothing. But to me it’s refreshing as I was constantly exposed to booby ads and being dumbed down. But that was my personal experience. It doesn’t make south Florida less than intellectual. Also, how many people in this world do you think just go about their days and see these ads but don’t associate or make any correlations? It’s a well-known fact that negative energy has a way of taking control. Simplicity without confusion is boring. Therefore, we create negative energy instead of making a bad situation better.
Not long ago, you would have to travel to Colombia to get augmentation. As being part of the fitness industry in Miami, I have seen regular gym goers having Colombian/Venezuelan plastic surgeons as husbands giving discounts to the other gym members. They disappear for weeks then return with noticeable facial/buttocks/breast augmentation. As for the club scene and DC overall, there is not as much style and flash as other regions in the US for reasons stated above. Not that there isn’t any style at all but I have been to quite a few venues here and there seems to be only a handful of flash from both sides. The flashy ones do stand out whereas in Miami, Atlanta or NY, flash is everywhere. Wearing a suite or a tie is not what I consider flashy. You can pin point a Colombian male by his hair-cut or a Brazilian by his outerwear. They have their unique flash. Those living in warmer climates tend to wear light colored clothes and are usually more aesthetically fit on the average all year round (Talking about those that are into nightlife and going out. Not your average family joe or jane).
I have also noticed there are not as many Europeans and South Americans in the area. DC is heavily populated with Central Americans, Asians, Africans and preppy hipsters. I did find a spot on the weekends with a high concentration of Russians but they are hard to get into. It’s not uncommon- rather often, do I see young pro men wearing sport jackets with ties to the clubs. You won’t see that too often in other areas. There is more substance in DC. It’s not all hype and flash which ultimately is better for society.
But here is the catch. Nobody really seems to stand out. Facial features are average. I haven’t come across too many well-built men with swag in town. Dress styles are normal. There are men and women jogging around all day but lacking in any real aesthetic physique- coming from experience (not necessarily a need to be overly muscular). Being functionally fit is not the same as being aesthetically fit. You don’t find often that tall, tanned, dark-haired, Italian/French macho look that you find in other regions. Pretty much that’s it- you won’t find many swaggy men and statuesque type women except for the African-American community. Just your average joe or hipster is common here. Also, you don’t find too many going out of their way to beautify themselves perhaps because they are more concerned with other things like normalcy and their careers.
When it comes to finding a partner here in DC, it’s all in what you are looking for and your fetishes. You like em plump, skinny, dark, tall, etc. You won’t get dazzled but there are plenty of men and women. I see them roaming the streets all day. Just don’t expect stallions or mustangs.
I criticize the people of DC all the time. But there are a lot of attractive females between the ages of 22-39 here. I mean A LOT.
Tell you what. Take a trip to some sh*thole rust belt city like Cleveland or Detroit. Or cruise around some third-rate Southern cities like Nashville, Birmingham or Charlotte. Visit the farm belt country of Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Or do a tour of smaller cities in Pennsylvania or upstate New York.
After you visit those places, you will be dying to see 20-something Washington, DC women in the flesh! You can't wait for that plane ride back to Reagan National or Dulles airport! You will be so ecstatic about watching the post-grad girls jogging in their tight shorts along the Potomac River that you get a heart attack! Big improvement from the flabby bodies and yucky faces from that Kansas City business trip, huh?
Once you travel from the US affluent, coastal cities, the female population takes an entirely different physical appearance. Big butts, poochy bellies, bad skin, worse teeth and just bad luck with genetics when it comes to facial appearances. From the Rockies to the Appalachians...the women are just uglier.
On the flip side, the pudgy women with bad skin from the Midwest and The South are also more friendly and likeable than the arrogant, azz hole women who inhabit the trendy, upscale neighborhoods of DC and surrounding suburbs. She make you feel small when she gloats about their Ivy League education, honors society crap, speaking four languages fluently, the US Congressmen her Daddy knows or her overseas working experience before she finished college. If you don't measure up to those standards than you better look some place else. Pretty much 95 percent of the male population cancelled right there.
For eye candy purposes, DC does right by me. But I would be happy with a sweet but ugly woman from the Midwest.

This is an interesting take. While I'm sure DC attracts the types who want to work in Government/Political related jobs, I don't think it's exclusively that type that's attracted.
For me, I came up simply because it was the closest big city to Richmond, and I didn't want to go further south (worse regarding cliques and trying to socialize IMO). The bigger cities like NY and LA were out because they typically have their own local candidates for jobs. Why move a kid all the way from BFE Richmond? At least for DC, you could do a phone screen and just drive up for an interview.
But I will say, whenever I'm on an online dating site and I see a girl who's around 27-29, and absolutely stunning, I think to myself, "she's a lawyer, no doubt. I'm gonna call it before I see it." And sure enough, you check out their profile and it's "Education: Graduated from Law School" and they're lawyers working for DC firms.
In getting dates with a few, I've always found, at least anecdotally, that they all went to top tier schools too; Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, GW. After our first date I inevitbly get a tex response that "they just didn't 'feel it' / don't think we're a good match". I guess there's some merit to the old argument "money and good looks breeds money and good looks."
And I'm no low class slob myself; I've got an MBA, but on these dating sites there's often no way to differentiate that. They make an option to say "law school" but with an MBA or otherwise great masters degree, all you can say is "Finished grad school". That could just as easily make you look like some kind of artsy, professional student who's not ready for the real world. But I'm digressing here.
One girl told me, "I like DC; it seems to be a really professional town." Others have said that too. I don't understand this. People don't have jobs elsewhere?
Back in Richmond, it's not like I hung out with janitors or construction workers (not there'd be anything necessarely wrong with that); every one of my friends either had an MBA, was just finishing one up, worked in finance or some corporate business/marketing analyst role for a fortune 500, and there were a couple of lawyers in the mix.
I simply don't understand why this "professional culture" or being a place where a lot of people are married to their jobs would ever be exclusive to DC.
I know, radical change of topics, but on that subject of how women dress here, I'll agree, a girl with a great body, maybe wearing a party dress or some short businessey skirt outfit with stockings is way more sexy than that bare legged look you always see on TV and in magazines. During the winter here though, maybe for the past two years; almost the norm for attractive girls seemed to be a shorter skirt with some kind of dark black, what were probably tights. The weekends came and it's like they just didnt try. They'd go out in jeans, etc.
I had a first date with a girl who was wearing one of those above outfits, and I ended up telling her she looked great/sexy or something, and she just shrugged or something like, "I'm just coming from work."
I didn't come to DC to necessarely date runway models, one after another, but I would've been happy to at least find a decent number of cute, sociable single girls who were interested in meeting others, and weren't just stuck in their college cliques.

I too moved from Miami before coming to DC and noticed many of the same observations. DC is very work-centric but very smart (politically conscious, knowledge of history, exposure to different environments) and Miami is quite vain but enjoys life much more (working out, traveling, spontaneity). Also, though DC girls hold their head a little too high at times, they are of better long term quality then the ones that I met in Miami; DC girls think more long-term altogether and are more stable (It's all fun and games until the girl YOU'RE prospective girlfriend is trying to regularly get drunk on weeknights, lol). That being said, there are quality people in both cities.
I'm just depressed how hard it is to find a girl without a pouch in DC. Good lord.
