yeah, I'd say the anti-gay crowd in DC is really just a vocal minority. Despite their cries, DC has managed to be more progressive on the gay marriage front than Maryland or Virginia.
Although in an ideal world, government wouldn't even be involved in marriage. What pisses me off about the marriage debate is that the anti-gay marriage people do not argue with rationality, only with their book. Ironically, many of these same people are also afraid of muslim sharia law (not that I blame them), but are more than happy to impose christian law.
I can only imagine how much further along we'd be if religion didn't influence government.
Ah, you might want to rethink that. Alanboy is African American. Many Blacks are socially conservative. Of course you know that.
Ummm... I could care less what race Alan is. What does that have to do with anything? It's actually even more appropriate to call him out on being upset about the tactics homosexuals use to get attention for their equality when the same tactics were used to fight for his own equality a couple generations ago.
Actually, hopefully this will open the eyes of some people before they make the same mistake of moving to the DC area that I made over two years ago.
What?!? Are you really trying to argue that western PA is more progressive and accepting of homosexuality than DC? I guess everybody's gotta try to validate their life choices, but that one's quite a stretch.
Homosexuals are accepted and allowed to live their lives in DC more than just about anywhere in the world.

This was so stupid to post. I was referring to gay people comparing their struggles to blacks in the 60s when we were fighting for different things. Gays are mostly fighting to get married, blacks were fighting to generally live a decent life. That I don't like. BTW, I respect MLK Jr. and Malcolm X greatly.

Let's get this clear. You are the LAST person I want defending me. You know what I think of you. Leave me alone.

If he PERSONALLY finds West PA more accepting of his lifestyle than DC, then what's the problem?

I personally agree. I'd say give everyone legal civil unions and let the churches, mosques, or temples decide who they want to "marry."

It's not just about marriage. Homosexuals are, by the definition, considered second class citizens. There are multiple fronts that they are not given the same rights as others and, given the significantly higher suicide rate and incidents of verbal and physical abuse they endure, the parallels are far greater to the fights for gender and race equality than you are allowing.
I never doubted you respect the actions of civil rights leaders, btw. I was just responding to the absurdity of the other poster informing me of your race as if I'm supposed to treat you different with that info. Nothing to do with you personally.

He wasn't just talking personally - he was making a broad generalization about the two areas as if it were a fact. Someone needed to point out that, from an objective standpoint, support for homosexuality tips toward the DC region over the Pittsburgh region.

I agree with this too - just get government out of the marriage biz altogether.
I don't even see the point of civil unions. I don't see the point of all the benefits that people get if they're married. It discriminates against single people for one, and government shouldn't be involved in trying to coerce people into marrying/procreating. A lot of right-wingers protest the ending of DADT, calling it a "social experiment" or something silly like that, when there's been an experiment going on for ages (marriage benefits).
Happens everyday to millions of people around the country, by people of all ethnicities and backgrounds, not just Black people or "hood rats". The woman in the video doesn't even seem like a hood rat to me, albeit a rude person. Hood rats don't apologize and they definitely don't articulate.
