I plan on moving to DC soon for a job, and I am starting to look for a place to live. These are the main factors I have to take into consideration:
1. safety
2. commuting distance in DC
3. Affordability of purchasing a house/ renting an apartment
4. A neighborhood with charecter (not blighted-charecter)
It seems MD may be a little cheaper than VA... is this correct?
Also, is there efficient Metro stations in MD? Which is an easier commute?
Your list is essentially what everyone looks for in housing. You need to be more specific, especially on three points:
(1) How much are you willing to spend?
(2) Where will you be working? DC? Tyson's? Springfield? Rockville?
(3) How much of a commute are you willing to endure?
Because of the high cost of housing in this area, and the horrible traffic, most people find that they have to make tradeoffs on one dimension or another. There is no secret neighborhood with short commutes, affordable housing, great schools, safe streets, and character.
