I'll be attending school starting in about a month or so (unless I get in off a waitlist elsewhere in DC; not the issue at the moment).
Anyway, it's possible that I waited too long to look in the luxury buildings in the area, as a lot of them don't have any availabilities in my price range for studios/one beds (price range is $1,400 - $1,700). My question to you fine people is if any of you have any knowledge of realtors in the area of Arlington or even Alexandria (preferably Arlington) that could show me some rentals that are not in luxury buildings? I tried RE/MAX and a couple others but they either haven't picked up or haven't gotten back to me. Is it unreasonable to find a rental within walking distance to the metro for this price? I at least know that Arlington is not all luxury high rises. Are there regular buildings or houses that rent out apartments in the area? Craigslist is somewhat of a cesspool of scams and negativity these days, so it's almost a waste of time. Time is somewhat of a factor here (my own fault) so any help is greatly appreciated.
It is unlikely you will find a realtor willing to work with you on such a small budget, believe it or not. The ones who take on rentals generally do whole houses, starting at $2200 or so. Otherwise it's not worth their time and efforts.
I'd stick to rent.com, apartmentfinder.com, etc. You should be able to find non-luxury places there, although walking distance to the metro is going to be tight in that price range. Many communities offer a free shuttle to the metro during rush hours, so if your class schedule works with that it could open up further options.
Wow thanks. To be honest, I didn't think that $1,700 for a studio was that small of a budget. But like you said, things are different down there and the housing stock seems to be either luxury buildings or whole houses. Just out of curiosity, would finding something like that in the city be more likely? Or is it kind of the same deal? I mean, I've walked around a couple neighborhoods when I was down and there seems to be row houses, townhouses, etc. that could have different floors rented out and whatnot. And I imagine there are regular, non-hi rise apt buildings no?
Well either way, l I've got a couple lined up in a few days, so I hope at least one of them works out. Thanks for the reply...
You can try this firm. I know someone who used them and had great and fast service. It's a small firm so you know you will get individualized attention.
