No, it doesn't. But it has happened enough times to get people's attention. Generally speaking, the Metro is very safe.

It occurs too often, but any metro is going to have it's criminals and weirdoes. There are definitely areas you should be avoiding, again, just like any cities mass transportation system.

And the problem never gets addressed, much less resolved, because so much time is spent on the "related" issue(s). The PC blanket comes down to smother the complainers, and so on.

I am surprised that this thread drew so many comments. It is simple. Ghetto culture is destructive to society, destructive to its loyal members, and the average person is getting tired of dealing with it - and paying toward its support. I see the beginnings of that here in any case, and it is a welcome development.

If you need yet more reassurances ...? Yeah. It has nothing to do with race, by which I assume people mean the color of a person's skin. Ghetto = culture, which means that people have a choice. The spaghetti eater ? Ghetto. Children running amok on the train ? Ghetto. Loud music and belligerence on the bus ? Ghetto. Period. I have seen similar scenarios a million times. Ghetto adolescents are running wild downtown in areas close to the express train stops so it can also be observed there. These people need to be regulated and controlled for the greater benefit of society, for the regular people.

Are people complaining about litter because they are racist ? Really ? Anyone been to "Harlem: Land of Garbage" ? It is possible to fix the practical problems without taking on everything else.

People need to get over the guilt and say things that need to be said.
Excuse me but how many stranger do you walk up to and call a b****? People don't just walk up to other people and call them outside their name unless they have some kind of problem with them. Given that they never conversed the only thing she could see is that she was black and young.

That would be the "victims," who could use some tough love and standards.

A (black) businesswoman with whom we are friendly has struggled, hiring locals. She has suffered their non-existent work ethic, senses of entitlement, inappropriate dress, unacceptable treatment of the customers she needs for her business to survive. She has two accurate words for such people and one of them is ... "hoodrat." I will not mention the other.

So there it is.
And surely the hoodrats have lots of terms to describe high horse negroes as well, so you all are even. Let me guess, you and/or your businesswoman friend are West Indian?

I posted some videos earlier of how a situation would truly go down if you try to reason with these hoodrats. It ain't pretty.
You are a hypocrite because a month ago you was the person who started the thread about how the "hoodrat" called the gay couple fa****s. All you cried about was how she was rude and should have been fired blah blah blah. What happened to "oh that person could be having a bad day or just a mean person". It only bothers you when it hits your doorsteps but when it's about a black person you could care less.

It's clear he has created a myth and will not be evolving his thinking to match my far more reasonable stance that doesn't include yelling "rayyyyyyycist" every time. So be it. If he can't differentiate between holding people accountable for inappropriate behaviors and making blanket statements, that's not on me. The race issue is far from, pardon the expression, as black and white as he suggests.
You drink?

Wtf are you yapping about?!? There is a huge difference here. That hoodrat that called those guys f a g s was an employee and they were customers!! Not some random hoodrat on the street or metro. That's the difference numbnuts!!! And when did I Ever say anything about a bad day? I think you may have me confused...

The way I see it, you see a gay couple getting called out of their name you're crying homophobic, but when a black woman gets called out of her name you make it seem as though it couldn't possibly be race.

Here goes your thread:
Hood rat cashier at Safeway call gay couple "f@ggots". Remains on job...

Why is it that errrtime a black person is critical of his community he is given flack? I'm just as critical about my peeps and haven't been called a sellout by others..... what's wrong with admitting their is a problem in the culture? I get just as critical about Latinos who come here illegeally and treat this like their homeland...

Nope. Not at all. Not that it would matter, essentially. Native New Yorkers for many generations.

In fact, she is from the neighborhood in Harlem where she has her business, grew up there, lives there still.

See again how easy it is to move from what is important to begin discussing "related" issues ? Instead of addressing litter, argue that noticing litter and/or complaining about it makes people "racist," or insufficiently able to see how downtrodden the litterers are, and so on. Such a waste of time. When in truth, it is not rocket science. Behave on the train. Don't litter. Refrain from defining people with an education and engagement in the social contract as "high horse negroes." I mean, what a ridiculous statement. Such attitudes are holding back scores of young people and are therefore unethical in addition to being ridiculous.

In response to the question, whether such thing happen often, in NYC they do.
