While we're at it I have a friend who has a cheap place for rent. I think in the 900 something range. Basement apartment. I didn't jump on it because I wanna stay in Virginia for the time being but I still want to help out a friend. In south Takoma/Brightwood area.
I just signed on for a place in Springfield. I will miss living inside the Beltway but it'll be nice to be closer to work.

Next mission is to buy a basic furniture in one day. I'm planning to visit this coming weekend again. Any suggestions? Is Ikea accessible by public transportation?

If I was doing that on a "relocation" budget, I'd just call up a rental agency. Executive housing places can set you up with someplace sight unseen, but you'll be paying hotel-like rates.
If you want everything in one trip, Ikea is possible -- probably best to take a cab from the College Park or Greenbelt stations on the Green Line, then keep the number to call them on the way back. (CP is further, but there are always cabs there; dunno about Greenbelt.) Delivery is ~$50 flat-rate, so get everything in one trip. One caveat is that they've recently issued the 2012 lines and so stock was thin when I was last there in early August.
