Here's some history for you: After DC closed Lorton Prison, all of DC's most violent inmates were transferred to Federal Prisons. This totalled about 15,000 inmates, plus the other DC cats who were already in the Feds make up a significant number at the few maximum Federal facilities around the country. So in essence, the DC inmates stick together and the Feds have recognized them as "DC Blacks" but i don't think they call themselves that.
The make up of DC is totally different than other cities. DC is on an island in a sense. DC does not follow any city in terms of music, fashion, lingo, etc.. The city prides itself on this. Where LA gangs and Chicago gangs have influence in other cities, DC would never allow them to come in and set up shop. NEVER! Most people in DC laugh at gang culture because they think it's weak.
In DC's most violent era during the crack epidemic, New Yorkers and Jamaicans tried to come in and take over DC drug markets. One of NYC'S biggest drug dealers named Alpo Martinez was in DC during that time. He could not stay here without the protection of a guy named "Wayne Perry."

Interesting about DC solidarity. Nice to see, for sure! Makes sense too, especially national prisons, you'd have bonds.
Yeah, Mexican Mafia as enemies makes sense. I mean, L.A., always hear about Mexican vs Black...all the time. I don't know where the Latin Kings are from...I guess not Mexican?
How does MS-13 fit into that? They are alright with DC Blacks? I suppose MS-13 would be more Virginia/Maryland anyways....but not sure.

Not sidestepping what anybody else said, but it's really a since of a entire culture that's lost. Like I was born and raised in DC my whole 28 yrs. And like everybody else said there was no gang stepping foot in DC taking nothing but they last breath thinking they was gonna control our market. But honestly everybody on here is missing the point. It's all the same! Like anybody on here can tell you, if you wasn't from this or that hood you better not get caught walking through. Like if you was from 3rd st you better not get caught round Condon terrace. The gang **** is the same just because you a blood or crip don't mean you can walk to ANY hood and be "good" like crips bang on more crips in LA than bloods there. That's why now it's "where you from" where as "what set you claim". So it don't matter who claims to be what, cause if a bama come at you claiming he a blood or crip, you ain't gonna care if he lying or not cause that strap in his hand is as real as it can get. Ya'll arguing wether or not gangs are coming, cause does it matter if he kill you or your loved ones what he claimed to be?

The MS-13 hype is a bit overblown. Not every five Latin young males hanging out together makes a MS-13 cell like Fox news tells us.

I agree. The Langley Park, Takoma Park, University Blvd. and Wheaton areas are supposedly a national stronghold for MS-13. I've been to a few latin nightclubs in these areas and saw a few shady bald headed guys in baggy cholo looking clothes that were staring people down, purposely bumping into everyone and generally starting sh*t with random club patrons a few years back. You don't see this type of thing everyday though or even every month or year; especially not within the city limits in most places. But MS-13 presence in the DC Area is way overblown. Mexican/Central American gang banger types are much more visible in California cities like L.A., Compton, Oakland and San Francisco. Last time I was in SF, I overheard kids who were obviously Nortenos at a bus stop saying things like "I need more bullets. Fools were shooting at my window again last night" . I've seen or heard anyone who looked like an MS-13 member talking like this in DC.
