Park, W Hotel Rooftop, Bens Next Door, Spot, 18th Street Lounge (more mixed) are two popular spots. I am more of a fan of integrated crowd like Marvins or Patty Boom Boom. YBP thing gets old....too lazy to dress for work after work lol.

The Park at 14th on Thursdays and Fridays, The Spot lounge, Lux Lounge, many different bars on U Street (can't really remember the names of them)

It's the spot on U St. with the constant police/ambulance presence, so you can't miss it.

The Scene on most Saturday nights off NY avenue, or Tradewinds in temple hills to see Backyard Band, you'll get a real sense of the city and what moves it - live go-go. It's not bougie and uppity. but men still need to pay a hefty cover and people are grown and are there just to have a good time so no need to worry about riff rafs. Granted, I'm a guy, but I think you would be just fine at those spots.

I would not recommend Park, it's very narrow and extremely crowded, you literally can't walk. And the crowd isnt great, pretty stuck up.
