Default Things to do in DC during Thanksgiving Holiday

I usually go to DC during the Thanksgiving Holiday to visit my family, and I wanted some ideas of what to do during the holidays in the area.

I usually go to the National Mall and go to the memorials and museums, but I want to do something different this time. (However, I do want to visit the Newseum.)

What are some events unique to the DC area during this time of the year?

Any fun bars to go to? I'm in my mid-20s.

Ive heard a lot about Adams Morgan and the U Street areas.

Which is worse during Black Friday, Potomac Mills or Tyson's Corner ? I might want to do some shopping.

Both of the shopping centers are pretty bad for traffic on that Friday after Thanksgiving. If you want to shop why go to the mall? Try your shopping in Georgetown. It's beautiful and historic plus its outdoors. After you shop take a stroll through the beautiful Georgetown neighborhoods. The homes are beautiful.

Bumping this thread up here. What are some of the better restaurants in Georgetown? Something good and reasonably priced (yeah, like I'll find that in Georgetown, but it's worth asking ).

Also, what are some good, laid back bars in Adams Morgan or over in the U Street area?

And is Ben's Chili Bowl as good as everyone says it is?

My favorite Georgetown spot for relatively cheap (not much in the way of atmosophere) but yummy eats (if this is to your taste): Moby Dick's Kabob House. The whale in the name refers to what their bread looks like when it's baking.

Bumping up again...

What about the Dupont Circle area? Are there good museums, restaurants, galleries, etc.?

I am also interested in the U Street area and what they have to offer as well.

Any recommendations will be appreciated!

All the areas are nice to visit. Some other ideas: if you go to U St go up to Meridian Hill Park, Capitol Hill, Barracks Row, National Building Museum, National Zoo.

Highly recommended website:
Legal Drinking Age Check (the actual website refers to World's Best Bars - link to DC bars and lounges)
I have spent three months last year for business in DC area ( live in San Fran) and sometimes I think that I have been to more great bars & lounges in DC area than anywhere else. Coming to DC for Thanksgiving as well. Definitely looking forward that experience once again!
PS. Also, try J. Paul's restaurant in Georgetown ! Always popular and busy place. "Mi&You" (almost across the street from J.Paul's) - too pricy, not really worth the experience !
