Default Is it Possible to live in Safe Neighbor and Pay reasonably?

I posted on here before and decided on renting a 1 bedroom but i didn't want to pay close to $2000 a month just on rent... just to live in a nice neighborhood and not "the hood". Does anyone know of 1 bedroom apartments (max budget of 1400) with parking and air conditioning I can control? I don't need a nightlife or metro... also it has to be north im avoiding SW SE at all cost

There are many parts of SE and SW that are safer than many parts of NW and NE. Uniformly avoiding an area just based on two letters in the address makes no sense.

I heard bad things about those areas... i know plenty of people that have been there and said they had to move to due the everyday "Thugs" harassing them as they walked pass... it was just too much

I've lived in SW for 9 months and I have yet to be approached by anyone. I'm not really sure where you're getting your info from.

When?

People get mugged or killed in Georgetown (hell someone was killed on Halloween in Georgetown), does that mean you rule Georgetown out as well?

Your way of thinking is extremely flawed, KeithMitchell. So because some parts of SE and SW are dangerous, that means that the entire quadrants are dangerous?
Have you ever heard of Eastern Market? It's in SE. Go there on a Saturday morning and you'll see hordes of white yuppies buying organic food. It's about as far from "thug life" as you can get. Oh but the address has SE in it, so it must be ghetto, right?
What if I were to assume that because there are some gritty housing projects in NW, such as Sursum Corda, that Georgetown, also in NW, is also a ghetto project? See the problem with that line of thinking?

I think you're limiting yourself a lot by refusing to live in SE/SW, especially since Petworth and Columbia Heights are NW, and tons of NE is unsafe as well.

That being said, $1400 is enough for a 1 bedroom in Dupont, Adams Morgan, Woodley Park, etc. You may have to hunt around a bit for it in Dupont/Admo, but they're their (my 1 bedroom in the southern tip of Adams Morgan is less than $1400).
