Question Parking

I just moved to DC and I dont have a car so I know nothing about parking here. A friend of mine is coming to visit for the weekend and needs a place to park. He won't be arriving until around 12am on Friday. Does anyone know of anywhere somewhat near the National Cathedral that allows overnight parking and is open that late?

Also, If you had one day to spend in DC, what would you do?

Thanks so much for your help.

I live near there and, in my neighborhood, permits for on-street parking for over 2 hours are required only on weekdays. Scout out the streets in your neighborhood and note the parking regs.
For longer visits (or stays during the week), go to the police station on Idaho Ave. NW and request a temporary parking permit for up to 2 weeks (no charge). Go along with your visitor and bring proof of your DC residency, such as a lease.

I use to live right across from the Cathedral. Just tell him to drive around. He should be able to find legal street parking.
