I did USAJobs for 2 years and finally got in this February. My husband came in within 6 months since he used a noncompetitive appointment authority (Schedule A/disabled). We both started applying at the same time.

I just kept looking and applying for things everyday.

Not so much from the outside anymore. Once you get in, who you know will have everything to do with it.

Look for work with contractors that's on site with the feds. If you have relevant skills, you can be hired within a week or so. Then, once you have experience working with the Feds, you'll have a much better shot of getting a job with them. Took me about 3 years after a few interviews here and there, so good luck.

That's a good idea^^

One of my roommates got a job at the FDA through ORAU. She recently got an offer from one of her supervisors to become a full-fledged FDA employee once her contract with ORAU is up.

It helps to have a network, yes, but I wholly reject the notion that a person can't get a job without having a connection, even here in DC.
