Default "Is it us, or is it DC?" (Two DC women go to Alaska looking for love?)

Here's a story:
Two Washington Post reporters head to Alaska to find romance - The Washington Post

There's also a part in there where they often go out, and find wall-to-wall women. All the single guys need to find out where these women are going out in DC

Those women need to look inside themselves before looking at the district. They won't find the fix to their problems in Alaska or anywhere.

Good plan. The male/female ratio is in your favor in Alaska vs against you in DC. Smart move.

Whenever a person remarks that DC/NoVA is not the friendliest area for newcomers, most posters slap the person with the comment: "The problem isn't the area--it's you." Surely the same thing applies to this situation?

It seems like the Alaska trip is a gimmick for an article.

As a friend of mine said (who lived in Alaska during her single days and moved to DC), "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."

It's easier to find a man there, but if you're hoping for a fairly conventional, suburban life, that's not where to find a man who shares that vision.

Ha, that's a great quote.
Unless you're into blue-collar guys, DC does have a lot of good men. Most... if not all the guys I know are smart, hardworking, and educated. That may not be what some women want, but hey, its a good start.

I know it was just a dumb fluff piece...but wow. So many thoughts pop into my head when I read about a plan like that. Are they basically saying that they can only be successful in dating if they have a higher ratio of men to woman? What would happen if they were to actually meet a guy there they like and continue the relationship? What makes them think guys in Alaska want to be with women like them?

On the other hand it is really funny to me that WashPo ran a 5 page article that came out of a few women thinking the DC dating scene tilted too heavily towards favoring men - when on this forum men on here cry all the time how it's the opposite .

I go out every weekend, all I know is, I would lose my damn mind if there were a such thing as a bar so packed with women that a cat fight started.

That article is pure fiction.

It's them. I found their pithy piece to be patronizing and downright offensive at times. They go to a blue-collar environment and then complain the men are blue collar. I suspect they are waiting for the Great White Buffalo - they want men who have white collar money, education and social standings with a subtle blue collar ruggedness (oh so subtle!), but who will also dote on them like a gay man friend. Give me a break.
