Most ghetto people in DC mind their own business for the most part when it comes to yuppies.

The copious amount of sudsidized housing means that gentrification won't ever really sweep away the troublemakers.

Hi Purplewallz -

I am looking to move to Columbia Heights in a few blocks from 13th St. right around where you were. I'm a white female, 23, and will be attending grad school in the city. I'll be walking by myself from the metro at nights, around 8 or even 10pm on weeknights.

Have you continually felt safe in that part of the neighborhood at night? Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Not safe...too much poverty and public housing. I was on a grand jury for a few moths last year and you wouldn't believe the stuff going on in the public housing there. Multiple shootings during "regular" hours near the Metro as well. I would not live there. Get an efficiency in a better neighborhood.
