Hi- HR person here. $30K with JD sounds way off base. Most DC non profits are paying mid to high $30s for entry level Bachelors degree staff.

I agree with previous posters on getting to DC first and then finding a job when down here. I did the same thing 15 years ago, and got started with a temp/staffing agency and had a full time job within a week. Show up, work hard, have a great attitude, and there are plenty of jobs for you here.

I'd have to know a lot more about you and the jobs that you are applying for to help you figure out the appropriate salary range, but I can tell you that your JD alone should get you no less that $50K in DC, even as a consultant. And that is on the low end.

My advice - talk to some recruiters.

I'm sorry but JDs in DC are a dime a dozen. Unless you went to a top tier school, or graduated at the top of your class in a 2nd tier school, you really don't have much cache.
