Me too, DC is a lot more developed and the sidewalks are better maintained. When I go from DC to MD I can tell the difference and def from DC to VA even though Alexandria reminds me of DC a little bit.

Could be Alexandria was part of DC at one time.

I just want to point out that Alexandria was there first. At first the District took part of Alexandria. However, Virginia took Alexandria back in order to preserve Alexandria as a premier slave port. I did some geneology stuff and sure enough slave records show that my family having been in Georgia and Alabama for nearly 200 years came from Virginia first as did a lot of slaves.

Funny how something as awful as slavery had such an influence on everything, especially since most white people didn't have slaves.

The District took Alexandria and Georgetown, which both predate DC.

I associate DC more with Maryland, but I think of NoVa more than the Maryland suburbs. It's just that the rest of Virginia is so different from the DC area.

Alexandria seems as though it is just as urban as DC.
