Where should a single 25-year old f look to find a room in a shared house in DC?
Hey! I just moved from Europe to DC.
I am starting my first real job since graduating on Monday…I’m very excited;-)! I am currently staying at a friends place in Alexandria. Now I am looking forward to finding a more central room as close as possible to where I work (Farragut West Metro Station), very close to the White House..., or maybe on the Orange or Blue lines. I would like to find something relatively cheap, I do not need luxury...but a close location, or a place in a great neighbourhood would be great.
What price range do you think should I target? In which part of DC?
I'm sociable, easy-going, tidy, reliable and great to be around. If you have any suggestions as to where I can start my search, or if you are looking for someone like me, or know someone who does, I’d love to hear from you!

I have one word for you: craigslist.
Your situation sounds like the perfect candidate to look for roomies on craigslist. If you are renting a room in a shared house, it is possible to find rooms that have rent as low as 500-600 a month in Northern Virginia. It won't be right in DC (because the housing situation in DC is still super expensive) but it'll be pretty darn close or at least on a metro line.

Definitely Craigslist! There are several group homes in the Capitol Hill area, many within reasonable walking distance of the Eastern Market and Capitol South stations (Orange/Blue), so keep this area in mind when you begin your search.

Yeah, Capitol Hill and Eastern Market are excellent targets. Penn Quarter/Gallery Place also. The City Paper usually has adds for roommates galore. New issue comes out every Thursday...how convenient!

Thanks!!!
Hey guys! Have spent the whole day on Craigslist...thanks!
Also checked out the other site you suggested...with the new postings coming out on Thursdays! Have sent some emails. Got one viewing on Sunday already!
Am finding it hard to find anything on the blue or orange line, or close to Farragut West.
Any further tips are very welcome.

Well, keep in mind that the Farragut North station on the Red Line is only a block away from Farragut West. The Red Line would put some more stuff in Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, or Tenleytown into play...
