Trying to find a decent studio or 1 bed for around 1300. Possible? (apartments, for rent)

I have been looking for a while now and its been pretty tough. I live in silver spring right now but want to try and move closer to help with the commute to NE DC. Are there any hidden gems I'm missing? Maybe even places that are further away but the commute isnt that bad so it cuts down on the time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are some studios on 16th Street for around $1300. You will be pretty hard pressed to find a 1BR for that price in DC unless it's a hole. The Crestwood on 16th St. comes to mind, as well as the (bedbug infested) Woodner Apartments.

Try the Union Station area for people listing their basements for rent, if you don't mind living in a basement. Some of them are probably fixed up pretty nice, though I haven't looked.

I'm at the Lexington Apartments located at 11th and F NE. I pay 1350 for a 1 bdrm. I think there are some apartments currently available in the building. Here is the website: Wexford Management Company
