Default Working in Silver Spring, but want to live in DC

Relocating to DC from the South with a family of 4. We want to live in the city in a nice, safe neighborhood. But, want a decent commute. We can spend north of $1MM for a house. I've heard the NW section is the place to be. Any thoughts? Please help! We haven't a clue!

With the kids, NW is probably your best bet, perhaps Cleveland Park or 16th Street/Crestwood.

I assume "$1MM" is above $1 million? If so, then you have numerous options in Northwest D.C. -- principally west of 16th Street. I would contact a local realtor when you're ready to talk more specific.

Your best bet is Chevy Chase, DC.

The elementary school- Lafayette is great. It is a very family-friendly area. The commute to Silver Spring would probably be ok- you could drive through the park. The only downside is that there is no metro stop (the closest is Friendship Heights).

If you could take the metro to work, then I would look in AU Park. Janney school is also great, and it is easier to get downtown for museums/ activities/ etc.

One million plus should get you a very nice home.
