Greetings,
For daily work at Bolling AFB, which neigborhoods would be suitable for safe, convenient living aside from Alexandria? For example, I'd like a metro within walking distance. I would like to actually live in the District, but not sure what a 5:30am commute would be like from, say, Georgetown or Dupont Circle. I am a young, single male. For starters, let's just assume money is not an issue and focus on commute...i'd like to keep it 30 minutes or less. And I will probably be driving to work (I'm aware parking in the District is difficult or $$$).

Edit: Forgot to add that I lived in NoMa for some time during 2010.

Well, Georgetown is extremely expensive, but it also has no metro. DuPont Circle is another great area, but is very expensive. Downtown DC gives you more of a typical city feel, and was ranked the second best downtown in America. Historic Anacostia is becoming revitalized, but I still wouldn't live there just yet. NoMa has become revitalized and is becoming a new great place to live. H Street is currently revitalizing and is a great neighborhood now, it has the hipster crowd.

Forgot to add that Logan circle has become the "new DuPont circle" and is becoming a great neighborhood, and the navy yard has tons of new developments and in 5-10 years will have an amazing waterfront and within walking distance to nats park.

Thank you. I have been around Logan a couple times, so I'll look into there. How long of a commute from there or other NW neighborhoods would it be to Bolling though?

I strongly recommend Southwest DC (Waterfront) or Navy Yard. The area is great and only getting better, and you'll have easy access to South Capitol Street which will take you across the river to Bolling in a breeze. Plus these areas are substantially less expensive than NW.

Great advice, thanks! What's the "vibe" of those two areas, e.g. what type of people typically live there, is it quieter, pricey, more liberal, etc compared to other neighborhoods?

Columbia Heights is a great area, and it only takes me about 20 minutes to get to Bolling if I drive. It's a short metro commute too.

I think it depends on how you want to commute. Take the metro every day? Drive your own car? Get a cab? Ride the bus?

Well if you are going to drive, I don't think that DuPont or Georgetown are good ideas, you will have to drive through the worst part of the city. I suggest the navy yard/Capitol riverfront. They are located right across the anacostia from bolling and would be a short drive. Plus it is one of the fastest developing sections of the city
