wow. let all the rich people live in the inner city
and take public transportation now. i remember
not long ago it was the opposite. the more things
change, the more they stay the same.

i'll be glad when everyone finally moves out of
dc and let the rich have it really. so be it.
everyday americans will be off to do other
things besides keeping up with the joneses.

SW isn't even close to any of the other neighborhoods for this place to be charging that much in rent. The proximity to metro and Safeway is unbeatable but other than that, there's nothing else.

I do look forward to getting off at Waterfront with more people. Usually at rush hour you might have 10-15 people get off, I'm assuming it will be much more with at least 1000 new residents.

Well, yes. It will be transformative, but I'm not holding my breath. Because the entire Wharf development sits on new dirt -- a new parking garage, a new seawall, new streets -- it will require a lot of money up front, long before the first tenant starts paying rent. Getting that kind of money today is very difficult, and that (much more so than any CFA approvals, lawsuits from neighbors, etc.) is what's stalled the project for so long.

In the meantime, I'm hopeful about Sky House. If it leases up quickly, then banks should be forthcoming to start some of the smaller proposals: the north buildings at Waterfront Station, St. Augustine's (Wharf Parcel 11), and maybe St. Matthew's or Marina View (Town Center West). Some fresh new residents, plus new retail activity in Near SE, might give the area just enough market visibility to kick-start the Wharf and ensure its success.

They've already started some of the new projects though...

What new projects? Do tell! And is it me or does Sky House still appear to be under construction although they've started leasing? You would think these buildings would have a little more curb appeal, hopefully that's coming soon. I love SW, but I'm always confused as to why everything moves at a snail's pace in the tiny quadrant.

I read a report a few months ago that said they are starting to move a lot of the boats so they can start working on the sea wall and put in new docks.

Only the building next to the Safeway is leasing, while the other one, next to Z-Burger is still being constructed.
