Any recommendations for buildings in these areas? Looking for a studio or 1 BR in doorman type apartment building. Based on internet research, Quebec House and 2800 Woodley look ideal.

That is a little rough for a building with a concierge (which is what I think you mean by "doorman". We don't really have doormen in DC). The Macklin is renting but I don't think it has a concierge, there is a place called the Consulate right across from the Van Ness metro which is somewhat affordably priced. Daro Realty has a few nice buildings. I would check them out.
