Default Apartment in Arlington

I am in desparate need of help. I'm looking for a one bedroom apartment in the Arlington area (particularly around Clarendon), Alexandria would be okay as well, that is near a metro station. Ideally, it would be newer, or at least well-maintained, come with a washer/dryer in the unit, have constant hot water, friendly management staff, safe, and have ample parking. Oh yeah, and not be a roach/rat infested dungeon. I'm trying to keep the price below $1350 per month (parking included).

Any suggestions??? I've looked at the Barton House, but they rarely have vacancies.

I'd hate to just offer the same old rote advice, but I'd take a look at Craig's List. I wish I could be of more help but I'm not that knowledgable about particular apartment complexes in that area.

In Arlington, the Virginia Square area is a tad cheaper than Clarendon, and the area around the East Falls Church station is a tad cheaper than Virginia Square, but the character of these two areas is a bit more suburban than the sort of more urban and hip Clarendon and Court House areas. You can find a good number of apartments that meet your needs in Alexandria though. Just not in heart of Old Town.

Lots of places in Clarendon rarely have vacancies. It's a high-demand area because, independent of price, most of the facilities there meet your requirements, and those are similar to the requirements of a whole lot of other people. Otherwise, it will be difficult to get comments on particular buildings. Unless by some long-shot of a chance, somebody here does or recently has lived in one, most would not feel qualified to put this one ahead of that one. Meanwhile, the majority of units close to the Metro in the entire Ballston Corridor (Court House, Clarendon, Virginia Square, and Ballston) are in newer and rather upscale buildings. The whole stretch is high-density, smart-growth type development that has gone in within the past 20 years. Off the beaten path, you would encounter some older (and cheaper) facilities, but that's not the dominant ethos...

Your best best will be a condo for rent by owner to meet your requirements and your price range. Check out rentals on Craig's List and the Washington Post.
