I live in a townhouse community and someone keeps putting their garbage cans in front of my garage. The trash can has a number spray painted on it. I have put it away from my place in an area in which the owner could see it, but someone keeps putting it back in my area. Should I make a big deal and contact my HOA? It doesn't belong to neither of my neighbors. I need some advice.

Since you have asked your neighbors about it, I guess when you say you put it where the owner would see it you mean you put it in an obvious spot where whoever owned it would come upon it.

What's with the number on the can? It's not an address?

Why does it return to your home? Is the number similar to yours?

You could contact the hoa office in case someone has called them looking for it. You could put a sign on it next time like "is this yours" because maybe someone has seen it at your home so often (including an hoa maintenance man) that they assume it's yours. It may have started as a prank, kids mixing up trash cans. You could put a notice in the hoa newsletter if there is one.

You could keep it a while. You could write "take this can" on it next trash day.

Is this a case of the Track Pickup Persons not returning the can to it's original spot?

Or is this the owner, putting the can in your area full of trash?

I can see the Trash team doing this. Person picks up the can as his buddy drives further down the street. He catches up, dumps the trash and is too lazy to walk it back because he has to run further to hop on the truck.

The latter just seems illogical as it would be easier for me to drag my can out in front of my unit rather than hump it over to a neighbor's area.

I would complain to the trash hauling company or city agency.

Putting heat on your neighbor is just being asinine.
