I have been to the inter-league Beltway games at Nats Park and Camden Yards. I have to say that the numbers and passion favor the Baltimore Orioles fan base in both stadiums. When the O's visit DC, there are orange shirts everywhere in the stands. The place gets loud when the Orioles score a run or make a big play in the field. Just listen to the loud "O" shout during the National Anthem at Nats Park when the O's are in town. This drives Nationals fans nuts.
Nationals fans will appear at Camden Yards but the numbers are far more modest. The small contingent of curly W red people is surrounded by a sea of orange & black. It's no contest, really.
Baltimore Orioles have been in the mid-Atlantic market since 1954 compared to the Nats who are still relatively new to this part of the country. The Orioles have a longer history here and it's no surprise that more baseball followers identify with Baltimore even though they may live in Virginia or DC. The Nats will grow a more populous fan base as time moves along.
