Meaning Navy Yard? I've been living in the Capitol Riverfront for almost 3 years now and I enjoy it. I love being near the water and in an area that is still up and coming. There are plenty of cool things to do in the summer. The restaurants are usually dead except for Bluejacket which shocks me since a lot of people have moved into the area over the past few years. People tend to be homebodies in the neighborhood so making friends may be a challenge.

It's a newly built neighborhood and feels very transient. Lots of rental buildings filled with impersonal young professionals. I feel very safe. Limited retail and dining options; most of the restaurants are thoroughly mediocre (Willie Q's, Justin's Cafe, Buzz Bakery, and Gordon Bierch are all pretty lame; the Italian place by the water is good but very overpriced). Very convenient locations for getting around DC. I love being near the water and Nats Park.

I'd have to agree. None of my neighbors are friendly and most are quite snotty (typical non-profit, government wonk, hill staffer, attorney, consultant jobs). There is nothing to buy other than the row houses up the street. It's definitely very safe. The building you're talking about is further north so there really aren't any restaurants very close (short 5 minute walk) and it's not the most attractive area. I live down by the water at Twelve12 (previously at Foundry Lofts) and like it. Yes Osteria Morini is good but I spent $44 for dinner last night and didn't even have a drink.
