Default Questions about commute times and DC neighborhoods

Hello
I'm considering on taking a new job in the DC area. The job is located in Judiciary Square, downtown, DC. Using the metro is not an option, I will have a government vehicle which I must use. I was considering living in Arlington, Alexandra or Falls Church. Any idea on what the commute time will be? Also, any other locations you might suggest would be great. I'm early 30's, make around 65,000/year and single. I would prefer to rent rather then buy, and my assignment will only be for 3-4 years. Any idea of what I can expect to pay for rent.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, craig's list is a terrific source for determining how much rents are going for in a particular area.

You didn't mention what sort of place you were looking for; a home, a townhouse, or an apartment and how big of a space you'd want. Generally speaking, you can expect to pay at the least, $1000/month for a one bedroom apartment anywhere inside the Beltway. Most will run a few hundred dollars higher than that, particularly in more desirable locations in Arlington. Arlington, notably the areas around Clarendon and Court House, are sort of the nexus of nightlife for singles in their twenties and thirties. It's not a high-density, sidewalk-jammed sort of spot like Adams-Morgan and Georgetown by any means, but the area has a high concentration of young people doing well for themselves but who don't want the hassles of living in DC (i.e. issues with parking, crime, bureaucracy, etc.). Commutes from places close-in like Arlington and Alexandria via car to Judiciary Square should be doable within 30 minutes. It depends on accidents, where in particular you'll be living and hitting lights in DC.
