OP - it can be cold in February, and the last few have been bitter. But, by and large it's far from brutal. As other posters have recommended, just bring warm clothing to layer.
And for the record, historically January is DC's coldest month.
Oh, for the love of god. There is literally a 2* difference between January and February. If you can feel a 2* difference, you're special. As to the OP, I'm not going to split hairs over 2*. FEBRUARY IS THE COLDEST MONTH. DRESS WARM.
I'm sorry to say this but you do not know cold. Try negative degree temperatures.
What is with you northerners? It's like a badge if you've been through negative degree temperatures. Congrats to you! However, apparently you missed the part of my post where I said I've experienced "colder weather, but not snow or harsh conditions".
If the temperatures are in the lower 30s or 20s or below, as it often is in February, you'll need stuff you may not even own if you live in Florida. A heavy weather jacket, a sweater or lighter jacket to layer under the jacket, gloves, some kind of cap that covers your ears. Don't make the rookie mistake I often see from people from warmer climates who just wear a heavy jacket but don't have anything covering their head and then complain about how cold it is. Dressing for temperatures under the freezing point is a totally different animal than dressing for the coldest days in Florida. When it's freezing good head protection is as important as a good jacket. Or it could be in the 40s and not that much colder than Florida.
Thanks...Florida has had some cold winters, down in the 10s, 20s and 30s..seems like it's been a few years though, so I've kinda forgotten my layering techniques and all the required accessories. I'll have to watch the weather and hopefully get it all together, if necessary, before my trip.
