Question Theater In Dc Area?

Hi there!
I am a 19 year old female and will be moving to Gainesville, VA in 3 weeks. Around this summer/next fall, i will most likely be moving into/closer to the city to attend college as there is a plethera of schools in that area.

I am very interested in acting and have done theater in the past. My question is this: Does anyone know about Washington, D.C.'s and/or its surrounding areas' theater life? Or any acting opportunities in general?

I'm really curious about this. If any of you have actor friends or family and could share with me, it would be greatly appreciated. Any info on theater is great too.

Thank so much!

Oh, DC's definitely got decent theaters and groups:

Arena Stage
Woolly Mammoth
Washington Improv Theater
Atlas Performing Arts Center
Shakespeare Theater Company
Studio Theatre
Washington Shakespeare Company
African Continuum Theatre Company

...and so many more.

DC has about the second best stage and theater work in the country only behind New York. It's a great environment to see it (although some stuff is pretty bad).

The Shakespeare free-for all is always great even if the play isn't the best at Carter Barron.

just remember that if you see a local play in DC, particularly the Shakespeare gang... chances are they have appeared at some point on an episode of Law and Order.

It's just a statistical fact
