DC is one of the least attractive cities for both women and men. But there are definitely some diamonds in the rough. In my experience, Northern Virginia has better looking women than Maryland and DC but that isn't saying much.
People in DC tend to have inflated egos and a raging unfounded superiority complex. DC dating is often like online dating in real life. That is, average to frumpy and even downright unattractive women have men worshipping them and constantly stroking their massive egos because there is nothing better around. DC is not like NYC where the streets are paved with beautiful women. DC culture outside of work revolves around bar culture very much and bar culture is shallow and not real. Find a place to meet women outside of bars is my suggestion.
The upside about DC is that it is very easy to stand out if you are an out of towner. DC men tend to be short, feminine (lacking body hair, too skinny, don't work manly blue collar jobs, dress in too tight clothes and are snobby status whores) and boring. If you are *bonus* tall, good looking and have an ounce of personality and stand out amongst the DC area drones with whatever unique hometown charm and flavor you have, you can easily clean up with the best looking ladies in the area.
Quagmire rules, you are a perfect example of a DMV male. There are not too many cities that have women that look like Victoria Secret models. Only a man that is delusional would expect that. DMV men have really high expectations but don't offer much. Since there are so few of them they get approached constantly so they have inflated egos. It is true most men in DC are very skinny, wear tight clothes and act very feminine. They are "status whores" and very boring but they are with someone.
I don't care how many apartments are in NoMa. I care about amenities and the food scene S-U-C-K-S. Not to mention it's very quite and boring on the weekend.
Same for Brookland. Great it's gentrifying but it's still boring and the amenities still suck.
NoMa is definitely still hood and the crime stats support that. Only naive and delusional people think otherwise. I would tell the op to do your own research, the information is definitely out there. Many of the people that are telling you it's safe don't even live there.
