Hi,
I'll be moving to DC from Syracuse from around mid May to mid August. I'm completing a fieldwork placement for my graduate program at a rehab center in Burke, VA. I'm not exactly sure where I should reasonably look for housing? I'm willing to spend up to $1100 a month for rent. I'm 23 and am hoping to stay somewhere where there are other younger people, nightlife, etc. and where I could possibly have an easier time meeting people. I would need my car to commute to the rehab center so I would need to find parking and if possible, I'm hoping to keep my commute less than an hour. What neighborhoods would you all recommend?

First, you posted in DC and you should probably be looking in the Northern Virginia forum.
Then secondly your budget sounds low, possible but low.
I know nothing about nightlife, Clarendon, Merrifield,Ballston come to mind.
I would think Fairfax would be a good location but ask at work if possible. Good luck .

If you find an apartment anywhere in the DC area for $1100 (highly doubt), it probably has a roach and/or mouse infestation. I would advise that you get roommates somewhere.

I'd advise you look in Arlington, only because you have a car which makes it nearly impossible to find a parking spot everyday in nightlife-rich DC hoods like Adams Morgan and U Street. Parking in Arlington is 10x easier. You could try the Capitol Hill/Eastern Market area if you want because parking is easier and has direct freeway access but that hood is more geared towards older people.

You can live pretty much anywhere in DC, Arlington, or Alexandria and be within an hour drive of Burke. There wont be any traffic going that direction -- everyone is going the opposite direction.

I probably should have clarified in the original message, but I was looking more at getting a sublet for this amount of time, so I'd be willing to pay up to $1100 for a room. I agree that that would be pretty unreasonable for a whole apartment. Thanks for the suggestions
