^ I agree with that except regionally, DC is still in the center of two mid-atlantic, southern states regardless. Most of the residents from DC are most likely from somewhere in the Virginia/Maryland area, so that makes DC part of that culture too.

DC and Maryland are Mid-Atlantic. Delaware is Mid-Atlantic/Northeast. Virginia is Mid-Atlantic/South. West Virginia is South/Appalachian. The most common lowest denominator for the region is 'Mid-Atlantic'

DC's architecture alone makes it northern. Brick brownstones, rowhouses, apt complexes with more than 3 floors.....highly northern characteristics not found in most southern cities.
WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

There was a dude named Gerneral Sherman that had a say about Southern towns. More specifically he burned them down! Its absolutely shocking that towns he didnt get to like Charleston SC, and Alexandria VA have tons of rowhomes.

Charleston SC wad 30000x bigger thsn DC in the early days FYI.

Geographically it is in between, but in attitude it is certainly North. Liberal. You have to go south of Richmond to get South.

richmond and savannah are just 2 cities out of many throughout the south that dont have them. this is only because theyre older than other cities in the south so they share similar architecture to northern cities since theyre all a part of the orginial 13. furthermore, in northern cities at least 50 to as high as 80% of the housing stock is rowhouses brownstones or multifloor apts or some comination thereof.......in Richmond and savannah that percentage is alot lower....

Interesting. That's not too different from the 40% who said it was a Southern state in the Southern Focus Poll.

What do you think the results would be for New Jersey if they asked residents the same question?
