Bon Apetit, in awarding DC as its restaurant city of the year for 2016, highlights DC's growing number of neighborhood restaurants, the diversity of DC restaurants, the willingness of DC restaurants to try different approaches to preparing and presenting food, and the palpable enthusiasm and energy surrounding the city's growing food scene.

I would agree with this. DC's food scene is amazing for fine dining, but if you want something cheap and fast its hard to find something that isn't a chain or just low quality garbage. This is not to say DC doesn't have come great low priced food.. its just harder to find than in most cities and you really have to know where to look.

You can start with Yelp. It makes finding places substantial easier in this day and age. There are 500+ inexpensive "under 10" listings ($ out of $$$$) for DC. Ratings included, for your convenience.

Bon Apetit magazine just named the Filipino restaurant in Columbia Heights, Bad Saint, as the #2 best new restaurant of 2016 in the US. Congrats to them!

Huh? DC is the fast casual food capital. It's easier to find nice healthy cheap food here than almost any city in America. National chefs with fast casual concepts see if they can make it in DC before they even try expanding to other cities.

Yes DC does have a lot of Fast Casual places but there are all clustered in the Foggy Bottom/Downtown/China town area and once you get into various neighborhoods throughout the city it's hard to find other places to go to outside of the maybe two thats in your neighborhood.
