At one time or another, many of my single friends lived in DC or close by in Bethesda, Arlington, etc and all loved it - including me. I live a little further out now, but wouldn't think twice about moving closer in again.
Are you worried about being in a larger city, in general - or specifically the city of DC? There are plenty of crime stat websites you can use to compare DC to where you live now, or any other city you are considering.
**IMPORTANT - always look up your own neighborhood first, to get a sense of what an area you know, looks like in "crime stat" language.**

However, I keep hearing that the place is a dangerous place to be and it's not safe for a woman to relocate especially by her lonesome.
So, D.C. peeps, inform me. Is DC a good place for single women to live without being harassed, robbed, etc. Besides, Charlotte is not that SAFE...lol
DC is not dangerous for a single woman at all. There are more single women here than men.
As was already mentioned.. if you stay away from bad neighborhoods and use common sense you'll be fine.
Statistically, most cities will have more women than men. I was just in Atlanta this past week and met some women who stated they have such a hard time finding a man to settle down with because it's a single man's paradise down there. I remember when I moved to DC in 2012 people throw out ridiculous ratios that are so off kilter it isn't even funny. Just like most major cities, DC has more women than men.

I think a big part of it is more women go to college than men and most jobs that require a college education are in cities.

That's a good point.
