Moving to the Navy Yard area in January and am looking to live in a building. I'm using hotpads and padmapper but I'm sure there's more buildings than what show up on those two sites. Any one live in or can make a recommendation for a building?

Not sure, but most of the apartment buildings in the area are fairly new. There are a lot of options.

Try doing a Google search for "Navy Yard Apartments" and you will probably find the websites for all the units in the area.

Options are one thing, I'm having trouble finding them. I live 1100 miles away and will get minimal time in DC to house hunt.

Near Southeast DC's Completed, Proposed and Active Developments - JDLand.com

Scroll to the bottom. It lists every single building in Capital Riverfront/Navy Yard.

Lived in Foundry Lofts and Twelve12 and liked them both. What I didn't like was the kind of people the Navy Yard started attracting as it became more built up. Hence, I moved 3 months ago and so glad I did.

What kind of people moved in that you didn't like? Let me guess, Millennials? Conservatives? What kind of people?

Given its proximity to the Hill, other government organizations, and consulting agencies you definitely get your fair share of Hill Staffers, government wonks, and Milennials whose parents co-sign their lease because they can't afford to live on their own in the neighborhood. I didn't run into many nice people at Twelve12 but I did at Foundry Lofts. I decided to move to a grittier part of the city because I got tired of the phony and unfriendly people. Also, I'm someone in a nice income bracket, educated, etc. but just didn't like my surroundings. Also, 4 years in the same neighborhood got old.

The Hill and Georgetown are probably the worst neighborhoods in DC when it comes to robotic people. Could never live in those areas.

Didn't realize Navy Yard was as bad, but it makes sense given the proximity to the Hill. Too bad because Navy Yard is nice.

As DC gentrifies you're going to see a lot of areas attract the Hill types. I moved to Ivy City a few months ago to the Hecht Warehouse and even in that part of the city in a cool building I have ran into several A-holes.

Navy Yard is a cool area but I grew tired of it. I barely knew any of my neighbors since no one talks to each other. Even during fire alarms people were attached to their phones reading Politico. Ugh!

Hello RLCMA,

I found this post searching for Hecht Warehouse posts. I'm hoping to move there in May. I took a tour last August and absolutely loved it. Can you share any pros and cons of living there? Do you find it noisy? Any floor better than the other? I heard that the 7th floor has less apartments so it may be quieter?

Thanks!

Viv
