I agree with you. I hope DC schools improve very much in near future. Elementary schools are def. catching up on the trend but not just yet on middle and high, particularly in NE, SE and SW area.

Australia has amazing housing markets for sellers. We would prefer to spend far less, but budget allows in the million range we hope. Am going to check out AU more because it seems really promising.
Just FYI,
Right now, DC market is just the same for the right home. Often times those homes will sell within a week even days.
Million will give you some room but not a lot. I suggest you check on popular sites like zillow.com or redfin.com to get a good idea on the market and the area.

Fun begins!

DC's middle schools and high schools cannot all be placed in the same (not performing well) basket any longer. While it is generally accepted amongst the education community and the general public that there are MANY elementary schools (not just Janney) in DC that are performing well now, there are some middle schools and high schools (both DCPS and public charter) that are performing well as well.

Yes, I just read in the ECONOMIST magazine this spring, that Australia's house prices are currently unusually high in relation to its apartment (Flat) rental prices.

We just moved out of Chevy Chase DC and it was beyond excellent to have a family there because you can have a real house and park cars there easily but still be in the middle of the city. We never could have had that when we lived in NYC. We put our house up on Zillow a couple of days ago here: Mod cut: link removed, please read our terms of service.
