I have recently accepted a job offer in DC and now have a month to look for housing.
Ideally, I'd like to rent a private room with private bath in a shared house, anywhere within 10 miles of Medstar Washington Hospital/Howard University area.
Are there any websites any of you can recommend that would allow me to find rooms for rent?
I only know of Craigslist, but it's full of scammers who state to be living out of state and want me to send them money in exchange for a key.
I've heard of Roomster, but apparently that's a paid service, and I'm not interested in paying if it's not guaranteed that I'll get something in return. Please advise.

Thank you!
Try booking.com. It's an aggregate site that contains a mix of short & long term housing options.
I understand why youre leary about CL, but honestly it is definitely the highest common demoniator for a room online. It was extremely helpful when I lived in Arlington. I literally got one of the best deals off of Craigslist that you could find anywhere in the DC area letalone a safe clean area like Arlington.
Your job and credit is always important tho. Work for the government and they will pay you to sign the lease.
