Unfortunately, I can't find the all beef half smoke hot dogs for sale in downtown Baltimore where I've worked the past 11 years.

Definitely not Mangers. On another web site, someone speculated that it may be Sabrett. I can't imagine DC hot dog vendors buying all beef half smokes from a New York-based hot dog maker.

The half smokes are a special recipe. I believe they are custom orders. You can't just buy them as a regular person.

At least that's what I heard. Not saying its fact.

A lot of the hot dog vendors I see around the city have a Sabrett sign, so it could be. You can actually order online. And Ben's Chilli Bowl sells Sabretts. Maybe check with them.

I heard that as well. I'm curious as to where hot dog vendors go to place their order.

Sabrett makes a very delicious hot dog. It's available at Giant Food. I'd be very disappointed if DC's famous all beef half smoke hot dog was made in New York.

Apparently you can order them from Ben's Chili Bowl. This woman on YouTube got her hands on them:

From what I've read, Ben's Chili Bowl buys half smokes from Mangers, a sausage maker in Baltimore. Sausages have a coarse grind. Hotdogs, otoh, have a fine grind via emulsification. IIRC, the all beef hotdogs that I bought from hotdog street vendors had a fine grind with a spicy aftertaste.

I also read that Briggs, a defunct DC meat packer, created the half smoke. But their half smoke supposedly had a coarser grind. Briggs was bought out by Esskay, which, in turn, was purchased by Smithfield. Esskay Briggs half smokes can be bought at the following link:

Esskay Briggs Hot Half Smokes [SK88403] - $35.00 : Wholesome Foods Inc. Online Store

I wouldn't be surprised if DC hotdog vendors walk in a local warehouse to buy half smokes, regular hot dogs, chips, candy and soda.

Default Mangers

You can buy Mangers half smokes at the 3 Geresbecks grocery store locations. Essex, Dundalk and Glen Burnie MD. Or at Mangers in West Baltimore.
