Default Help with DC area? Is it safe

We have a vacation planned and are staying at the Inn at Brookland. It is next to the Catholic University. I have a friend who called and informed me that we should look for another location because it is not a safe area? Can anyone shed some light on this please? I am okay with culturally diverse, I am not okay with unsafe. Any suggestions?

Brookland is a safe area. Like with any major city, use common sense and caution at night.

Yes, Brookland is safe enough...just a little out of the way and certainly off the typical tourist's beaten path. You'll get a different impression of the city staying there than what most folks would...
