Default Looking for some suggestions on what to do for fun

I'm a 26 y/o single guy living in Ballston. I just feel like I am going to the wrong places. First of all, living in Ballston, I feel like I am supposed to join a frat or something. I don't like to drink much so I feel like maybe I moved to the wrong area. I do go out to bars with my friends, but unfortunately they always want to go to the hotspots, usually in Georgetown, where I feel like once again it is either a Gtown frat party or a contest to see who is the most pretentious. Does anyone have any ideas for some more down-to-earth nightlife ideas? DC is nice being non-smoking, but Arlington-Alexandria is alright.

Adams Morgan.

I didn't think Gtown was too bad pretentious wise, you just have to find the right spot (AKA avoid the places dominated by Gtown/GWU students).

Adams Morgan is an easy metro or cab ride away, i live in the Court House section of Arlington and go there quite often. Rock Bottom Brewery at Ballston mall is rather fun on say Wednesday nights (used to go there often when I first moved here) and there are numerous watering holes in the clarendon area as well.

If you're looking for more down-to-earth places to explore, I'd recommend Old Town Alexandria, U St., and H St. NE, in addition to the places others have mentioned.

In Arlington, there are some less-pretentious and less-frat feel places around, but you have to know where to look Unfortunately Dr. Dremos is no more, as you probably would have liked it. However, there is still the Lost Dog Cafe in Westover, which is not really a "bar" but still a cool place to just chill. Then there's Four Courts and Kitty O'Shea's in Courthouse; two excellent Irish pubs. In Clarendon the Liberty Tavern seems alright, though I haven't really hung out there enough yet to tell if it is getting much spillover from the meat market (i.e., Ballroom) next door. Clarendon Grill is decidedly more relaxed than the Ballroom too. Continental in Rosslyn is a pretty cool pool hall in my opinion, and it usually is not very crowded at all compared to its siblings (e.g. Buffalo Billiards) in the city. If sports is your thing then I suggest Mister Days in Clarendon, the Crystal City Sports Pub, and Summers in Courthouse.
